A team of researchers at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH) led by Dr. Vincent Tuohy has developed a vaccine that they believe will prevent breast cancer. Their discovery was published in “Nature Medicine.”
The researchers noted that a special type of protein, called α-lactalbumin, was found in high amounts in human breast cancer tissue.
The researchers then developed a vaccine based on this protein and tested it on mice. They found that the vaccine substantially helped prevent breast cancer in mice.
The researchers are hoping to be able to start human clinical trials in the very near future.
