Types of Breast Cancer

Breast cancers can begin in any breast tissue, although most breast cancers originate in the ducts.  A small percentage of cancers start in the lobules, and a smaller percentage start in other breast tissues.  Breast cancers are named depending on the features of the type of cancer, while some are named based on the disease origin, e.g., invasive ductal carcinoma.

Some of the types of breast cancers are listed below:
• Invasive or infiltrating ductal carcinoma
• Invasive or infiltrating lobular carcinoma
• Medullary carcinoma
• Paget’s disease
• Inflammatory breast cancer
• Tubular carcinoma
• Mucinous carcinoma
• Male breast cancer
• Phyllodes tumors

Detailed description of most of the above breast cancer types is available on other pages of the website.
